Either a 2.0 FSI, the 1.9 TDI, a later model 2.0 TDI or a GTI engine is the best choices of engines, the 1.4 75PS is slow and the 1.6fsi is slower on the road than the 1.9 and the cost of running premium fuel (which you have to do otherwise you'll get all sorts of rough running problems and emissions lights) negates any cost deficit in terms of
Re: 1.9tdi vs 2.0tdi (GoFaster) you see in norway we need to pay alot more in taxes when the hp is higher(the 2.0 costs 35000kr more=5000$) So if the engine was identical besides the 100cc he would just buy the 1.9 and chip it, but if the head and bottom end is different he might reconsider. Best bet would be to go with mk4 or Mk5 TDI’s (I’m slightly biased) It'd help if you specified 05/06 or 09/10 MK5 due to the different engines. I have a 2009 Jetta and 2011 Audi Q7 and the common rail engines have proven to be pretty great. I have 4. Two 2012 tdi Jetta wagons. A 2012 tdi Passat and an 09 tdi wagon. Volvo 2,4 D6 diesel or Audi 2,0 5 cylinder diesel. Both same 36x104x4 intakes. Logged '74 VW Scirocco TD '86 Audi 80q 1,9TDic '01 Audi A6q 2,5TDI.
I had a similar dilemma when looking for my Fabia. In the end I decided that with the type of driving I do (almost exclusive 25 mile commute on fast roads) that the 1.4 TDI would not be much more economical than the 1.9 TDI (although it would be if my driving was more mixed). I got an Elegance and as mentioned it's nice to have the heated seats.
1.9 TDI has better fuel economy than 2.0 TDI. What is the difference between Golf 1.9 TDI and 2.0 TDI? The 2.0 PD 140 BKD engine in the Golf is not bad reliabilty wise and actually very similar to the 1.9 PD in many ways, the main difference being that the 2.0 is 16 valve whereas the 1.9 is 8 valve .
